Hong Kong

Hong Kong is the other special administrative region (SAR) of China. Like I mentioned in my post about Macao, Hong Kong is still part of China but enjoys its own currency, political and educational systems. Hong Kong was a British dependency up until 1997, when it was returned to China. Anyway, I was in Hong Kong visiting family and just enjoying being there. I have to say, being in Macao or Hong Kong is drastically different from being in mainland China (except for probably Shanghai). I'll have to do a throwback post of the cities I've visited in China. But that's for later. Here are some of my pictures from my visit to Hong Kong.

From Las Vegas to Macao

Macao, a former Portuguese dependency returned to China in 1999, is one of two special administrative regions (SAR) in China. As a SAR, Macao is still part of China but has its own form of currency, government, legal system, immigration policies, postal and educational systems. Like Las Vegas, Macao's (capitalist) economy is heavily dependent on gambling and tourism. I traveled to Macao with my mom from Las Vegas. We had stopped in Hong Kong for a couple of nights before. By the way, it's about a 16 hour flight from Las Vegas to Hong Kong. Anyway, here are some pictures from the island of Macao.

The water seems murky due to all the pollution from mainland China. Unfortunately, the effects of industrialization can be seen throughout China. In order to see clearer waters and less smoggy skies, you'd have to take a boat to the outer islands about an hour away.

BurGR by Gordon Ramsay

Las Vegas has a plethora of dining options. I've been to a few buffets and some of the high end restaurants, but sometimes you just want to eat a good burger. So in search of a good burger I decided on BurGR by Gordon Ramsay. Warning- lines seem to always be super long but if you have a Diamond or Seven Stars Total Rewards card you get seated immediately. BurGR is located inside of Planet Hollywood. Here's some pictures of the place and my food.
Staring at Gordon Ramsay's face while eating.

Overall, it was good. The burger was good and the dessert was great. But unfortunately, I have had better burgers by chefs who are not even remotely well known. Though, definitely a place to check out once at least.

La Reve

Usually when I'm in Las Vegas I like to catch a show or two, and usually they're Cirque du Soleil shows. It's not a secret that the Cirque brand dominates the theater scene in Vegas so I thought it would be interesting to check out La Reve at the Wynn. La Reve was created by Franco Dragone but is not part of the Cirque brand. The show is similar to the style of Cirque shows however this one is more oriented towards diving tricks and water ballet. Here are some pictures from the show :)

Nominated for the Liebster Blog Award!

The lovely Hoda from JooJoo Azad ~ Free Bird nominated me for the Liebster Blog award. At first, I must admit, that I'd never heard of it. After some research I've learned that this is a peer award, so I feel pretty great to be recognized by other bloggers (especially since I'm still so new at this!) Blogger awards are a great way to get to know other bloggers and build community so I definitely have to accept it!

What is this?

The Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. So, what is a Liebster?  The meaning: Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. Isn't that sweet? Blogging is about building a community and it's a great way to connect with other bloggers and help spread the word about newer bloggers/blogs.

Rules:

1. You must link back to the person that nominated you.
2. You must answer the 11 questions given to you by your nominator.
3. You must pick 11 bloggers, each with under 200 subscribers, to be nominated for the award.
4. You must come up with 11 questions for your nominees to answer.
5. You must go to their blogs and notify your nominees.

Here are my questions from Hoda:

1. If you could be any color what would you be and why?
I don't think I've ever been asked this question. Although my favorite color is pink I would say I would be more of a lavender. I am pretty laid back but at the same time I do like to do and wear some things that make me stand out sometimes :)

2. What is the meaning behind your blog title?
It took me a while to come up with a name for my blog title because I really didn't want to just post about style. This is my blog and I want it to be about all the things I enjoy everyday. Thus I came up with Crystal365 (with help from a few friends!)

3. Dream job?
Astronaut for sure! But since that is limited to only a handful of very qualified professionals, I would go with teacher. I currently do what I love!

4. One thing about yourself that not many people know?
I like to put Rice Krispies in vanilla ice cream.

5. What made you decide to start blogging?
After encouragement from a few friends I decided this would be one of the most exciting and productive ways to document my life. I love to take pictures, travel, eat, put together outfits from my overstuffed closet, and generally have fun!

6. What language do you wish you spoke fluently?
Because of my background I speak Mandarin and Cantonese, but not fluently. So I wish I could speak them both fluently.

7. What song is your guilty pleasure?
Currently, it's "I Love It" by Icona Pop.

8. What are you most proud of?
At first I thought this question was asking me what accomplishment I am most proud of. But then I read it over and realized that meaning would only be implicative if I interpreted it that way. So instead of replying with my own accomplishments I want to say I'm most proud of my parents. I am a first generation American and my parents are immigrants who not only came to this country with a dream, but succeeded in obtaining their dream. Also, they put me and brother through college :) They're pretty awesome people and I'm proud of them!

9. What social justice cause do you believe most strongly in? (haha sorry I had to)
There are a few causes that I believe strongly in. If I had to choose one it would have to be equal education for all. Being a teacher, I see the inequalities that exist between schools in different areas. It's even greater worldwide. I think equal education for all is not only important to the individuals receiving the education but for the greater good for the future of our world.

10. If you could change your name to anything what would it be?
I wouldn't change it, I love my name.

11. Favorite quote?
So cliche, but it's "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." -Mahtma Gandhi. I think if we all lived by the quote, the world would be a better place.

I choose to nominate:

My questions for my nominees are:

1. Why did you decide to start blogging?
2. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
3. Where would you love to live and why?
4. If all jobs paid the same amount, which job would you choose to do?
5. Who do you admire and why?
6. Describe your typical day.
7. When was your last random act of kindness and what was it?
8. What is your favorite type of food?
9. What is one of your pet peeves?
10. Name some of your favorite musicians.
11. Are you more of an early bird or night owl?

Have fun! I would also like to hear back from my nominees, please post your answers in the comments to this post :)
